RGB
Brief
Respond to the title 'RGB'
Proposal
To me, RGB immediately brings to mind Red, Green & Blue. These colours form a subject dear to my heart, composing as they do the main inspiration for my paintings in the form of light waves emanating from the cathode ray tube (or pictures off of the telly)... For the RGB exhibition, I would like to start work on my latest different (but intrinsically related) source of inspiration, the autochrome. This Edwardian photographic technique was the first true colour photography. The process relied on crimson red, lime green & lavender blue pigments...

Statement
The Edwardian Autochrome was the first true colour photography.
This enchanting image gives rise to curious contradiction:
once precious, exquisite & rare, yet now humdrum, everyday & cliched. Who doesn’t have similar photos?
For me, this gives a haunting relevance that I wanted to paint.
We share the compulsion to document our lives, to squirrel away small fragments of it so we can look back at these tokens as talismans against our fleeting time here.
